The Turkish PE market has been rather quiet this week. Most players decided to wait for January prices back at the beginning of this month. Buyers expect the recent price uptrend to continue, but some of them prefer refraining from or minimizing purchases. A lack of containers has become a serious problem in Turkey. Charges for the polymer shipping from Saudi Arabia have hit $200-250/t, according to traders, and they may continue increasing as the polymer is in great demand not only in Turkey, but also in the Asian countries now. The carriage from Iran has also become more expensive. ‘Trucking from Asaluyeh costs around $100-110/t. However, this price provides no guarantee that vacant trucks will be found immediately, so Iranian petrochemical companies have changed all CPT offers to FCA,’ a trader has told PMW. Now, there is a chance for Russian suppliers to strengthen their presence in Turkey as it is $30-35/t cheaper to transport PE from the country. PE supply has been tight in Turkey this week. Film HDPE has reportedly been the hardest to find in the market.
PE value has still been on an uptrend in Turkey this week. Offers of $1,280-1,320/t CFR Turkey have been coming for film LDPE, $1,050-1,060/t CFR Turkey for C4-LLDPE, $1,070-1,120/t CFR Turkey for film HDPE and $1,060-1,080/t CFR Turkey for blow-moulding HDPE of US origin. Saudi Arabian film, blow-moulding and injection-moulding HDPE has been traded at $1,120-1,130/t CFR Turkey, $1,100-1,110/t CFR Turkey and $1,050-1,060/t CFR Turkey. The same grades of Russian origin have been changing hands at $1,100-1,120/t CFR Turkey, $1,080-1,100/t CFR Turkey and $1,040-1,050/t CFR Turkey respectively. Iranian traders have been selling film LDPE and C4--LLDPE at $1,320-1,350/t CPT Turkey and $1,060-1,090/t CPT Turkey, but some of them have been quoting higher prices of up to $1,430/t CPT Turkey and $1,130/t CPT Turkey respectively.
The Turkish PE market may see lower trading activity next week as buyers are already started looking forward to next month. The polymer will get even more expensive amid the tight supply and high demand.
